What is platelet rich plasma?

Plasma is a component found in your blood that contains proteins, that support cell growth.

PRP is made from your own blood. This means that there are no chemicals/toxins or foreign bodies involved in the treatment - so, if you are searching for a more natural treatment with no risk of 'rejection' - then there is no better treatment than PRP.

PRP therapy uses your body’s own tissue growth factors to stimulate and improve blood supply and collagen formation in the skin and hair.

As the platelets in the blood are integral to healing the skin, they naturally help in the augmentation and regeneration of skin tissue and hair growth.

The PRP facial is a treatment that isolates the plasma from the blood and then concentrates it. 

Dr Sumi extracts a small amount of blood which is then placed into our centrifuge which separates the PRP from the blood. 

Injecting the PRP into the tissues of the skin or hair, triggers your body to produce new, healthy cells and promotes healing.

As the tissue growth factors are concentrated in the PRP injections, it stimulates our body’s tissues to heal faster.

  • PRP can be injected directly in the scalp or skin or can be applied as a solution directly after microneedling.

  • PRP has been used in hundreds of thousands of procedures, worldwide, for the past 30 years, particularly in maxilla-facial, orthopaedic and cardiac surgery.

    Because it’s based on the use of autologous tissue (in other words, it uses your blood to repair and regenerate your skin tissue), PRP is one of the safest ways to revitalize and rejuvenate your skin.

  • Prior to treatment, a topical anaesthetic will be applied to your skin, so as to minimise discomfort.

    You feel a stinging sensation on injection.

  • Following treatment with PRP you might experience some localized lumps around the sites of injection.

    These tiny lumps will subside naturally, within around 24 hours after your treatment.

    You may also experience some swelling and slight bruising, following the procedure; all of which are very natural, temporary reactions.

    If applied post micro-needling then you mayexperience some redness or swelling post procedure which will settle after 24 hours.

    • Try to avoid unnecessary touching of your face for the first 24 hours after treatment

    • Avoid for 3days: active/prescriptive skincare containing alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, vitamin A and C. Avoid emollients, dyes/colouring agents.


    • Avoid for 14-28days: Direct sun exposure .

  • Your skin texture will improve over time as new tissue cells grow.

    Hair grow will be stimulated leading to increased hair which is thicker and stonger.

    Visible results may take between 3 and 6 weeks, which will continue over the following months.

  • We normally expect to see the best results after a course of 1 to 3 treatments.

  • PRP is suitable for most people.
